Blue Mug Research :

[ Blue Mugzilla ]

Blue Mugzilla is a variant of the Mozilla project's Bugzilla bug tracking system. It has been reworked to be suited more towards small, private, software engineering projects. Blue Mugzilla is an open source application, licensed under the Mozilla Public License. The current version of Blue Mugzilla is 0.1, released on August 22, 2001. It is based upon Bugzilla 2.12.

Differences from Mozilla's Bugzilla

Many of the differences from Mozilla's Bugzilla are conceptual. Mozilla's Bugzilla is geared towards a single, monolithic product spread out across many revisions and platforms, with a large number of the bugs coming from the outside world. At Blue Mug, our work involved many smaller projects, with no direct access from the outside world.

We took the original Bugzilla bug model and reworked it to better fit our needs. The code is largely unchanged, however some of the more anarchistic features (such as voting) have been removed. Minimal changes were made to the database schema.

A large amount of work has gone into reorganizing the pages to make them cleaner and easier to navigate. The bug entry and viewing screens have been reorganized. A "simple" query page has been created.

In addition, the bug life-cycle has been changed to one we believe better suits a small to medium sized software project. We have added a type field to classify bugs, and added user definable e-mail reminders.

We feel that Blue Mugzilla is the best bug tracking system for use in small to medium sized organizations, free or non-free.
